VPN
What does a VPN (Virtual Private Network) do?
A VPN will provide designated users secure access to resources on your office (or home) network, from anywhere in the world, where an internet connection is available. What is required for a VPN?
A VPN server will be required. This is normally a function of the firewall, and suitable software is provided with a variety of firewalls (subject to licence conditions). It is also necessary to install a VPN client on the users' laptop. Will I be able to send and receive email using the VPN?
Yes, you will have full access to all resources on your local network, via a VPN. Quality of access is affected by connectivity conditions, e.g. the speed and quality of the connection in use by the client. Email
Is it possible to access my company email via the internet?
Yes, InterNetwork Solutions can provide secure access to company email, without using a VPN - this is achieved using webmail, accessed by your internet browser. Can you stop the spam (unsolicited email) I keep on getting?
It's not always possible to completely stop spam, but there is much we can do to reduce it. There are many good products available, both free and some rather costly, that can be implemented to reduce the intake of spam. Our company requires a cost effective email system. Is there such a thing?
Yes, there are several freeware products available, to implement a very reliable, robust email system. As there is no cost for the software or operating system base required, the only cost to the end user is that of installation and configuration and server hardware. Will the system mentioned above send and receive email to the internet?
Yes, it will permit both sending and recieving of internal and internet email. Anti-Virus
What about virus infections? Can you protect my email and systems from a virus outbreak?
Yes, we can provide anti-virus protection to email as part of the anti-spam software. InterNetwork Solutions can also provide other leading anti-virus solutions from Norton, Sophos and Avast amongst others for server and client workstation protection. Networks
My network is very slow. What can I do to check it myself?
Start by checking for damaged cabling, check all RJ45 (link to image) plugs, and also check for network loops e.g. where two hubs or switches may be plugged in to each other twice. There can be other causes, such as faulty network cards, a PC or server running some unstable software causing excessive network traffic or some other unwanted device(s) plugged into the network. We have a network, and would like to have secure areas for users to store their personal data. What do we need?
The best way to do this, is to install a server, which can be setup with designated areas for users to store their data. This also simplifies the backup of this and other crucial company data, as it is all on the same machine. Our company has data (in various formats) that we would like to make available to our users, for internal use only. Can this be done?
Yes. There are a number of ways this can be achieved. Typically, the data would be made available using an "Intranet". An Intranet is accessible via an internet web browser, and is only available to users on the internal network. This can be further refined, by only permitting specific users, by means of a username and password. Internet
We would like to advertise our company on the internet. What would be the best way to do this?
The first step to be taken, is to decide on an internet domain name. This can be almost anything you like (subject to availability) but must be in the form mycompany.com, mycompany.co.uk or mycompany.biz etc. The next step is to design and build a website, and then have it hosted on the internet. The internet domain name you choose, also becomes part of your email address, hence an example email address would be joe@mycompany.com. Once you have an internet presence, your site is then registered and promoted with internet search engines, so that when people search for a service you provide, your company will appear in the search results. InterNetwork Solutions can do all of the above for you. Our company has an internet connection, but it seems to be getting slower and slower. How do know if the traffic is legitimate company data?
InterNetwork Solutions can provide monitoring software, which can control users access to the internet, and also log which websites they visit, and at what times. We can also restrict internet downloads, saving on valuable internet bandwidth. |
